Creating Iconic Images

Posted on 26 January 2009 by Terry

Being a photographer, one is always on the look out for what others are doing to hone their craft and create images that create an impact or evoke an emotion. Seldom are there times when an image can move me to the point or creating  a lump in my throat, but one image from the Obama inauguration by Scott Strazzzante of the Chicago Tribune, did just that. His photo is both timeless, yet perfect for the times. It could have been taken last week or decades ago when Martin Luther King spoke in Washington.

Out of respect for the photographer, I’m not going to leach his image off the web, but point you to an article on Sportshooter.com to read the story behind this iconic photo that will surely be one we will see for years to come.

So as a point of discussion, what do you think creates an iconic image? Check out Nocaptionneeded.com for ideas.

2008, the year in photographs (part 3 of 3)

Posted on 24 December 2008 by Terry

2008 has been an eventful year to say the least - it is difficult to sum up the thousands of stories in just a handful of photographs. That said, I will try to do what I’ve done with other photo narratives here, and tell a story of 2008 in photographs. It’s not the story of 2008, it’s certainly not all stories, but as a collection it does show a good portion of what life has been like over the past 12 months. This is a multi-entry story, 120 photographs over three days. Look for part 1 and part 2 earlier. (40 photos total)
